Lyrics/Scripting

How does it feel…

(7second intro)

I risee.. I fall.. so pick me uppp

We sit.. we stand.. we move as oneeee

Sometimes it takes a lot of love to keep us goinnnn

We help.. we hold.. I kiss your mouthhhh

We cry.. the sound.. between us nowww

And if it takes a lot of love to keep us goinn nnn nnnnn

How does it feel, each day you wakeee up, the sun is shining on our thoughts so heyyy

Why don’t we wake up, its easy just to take a momenttttt

I call.. to you.. with broken eyessss

You smile.. and you lie ie ie for just a whileee

Sometimes it takes a lot of love to keep us goiiiiin

Sometimes its easy just to loose it
All we need is just a momenttttt

How does it feel, each day you wake up

The sun is sinking on us all so heyyy

Why don’t we wake up, its easy just to take a moment,

everybodys looking for the same thing, Searching for an open door, to take them somewhere, sometimes its easy just to loose it, how does it feel, how does it feel, how does it feeeeeeel

how does it feel each day you wake up, the sun is sinking on us all soo heyyy

(Why don’t we wake up, its easy just to take a moment

How does it feel each day you wake uppp

The sun is sinking on us all so heyyy

Why don’t you wake up

because its easy just to take a moment

I used wordle to scramble my lyrics, to pick out the key words for inspiration of what to focus on in my music video.

Actors and costumes

The actors of my music video are very important. The video being mainly performance based means i really need girls that can act and perform to create the effect that i want. I had to take into consideration what characters i would need. These were:
- Main female singer
- Back up singer and dancer
- Back up singer and dancer
- Male actor for the flashback/narrative scenes
I listed names of who i thought would best suit the role. The main singer will be Jenny thomas, I have chosen this person to play the role because she is very enthusiastic and has a talent for acting. She is quite tall and can be easily made to look glamorous and intimitadating towards an audience for a sex appeal. I will dress her in a short black dress and black heels with her hair flowing and quite crazy and free looking, i want the audience to understand her personality as being a very controlable, glamorous woman.
The two back up singers and dancers are Megan Mcgill and Chanel Abrahams, they are both very similar looking and will be able to give a performance for my music video, i need these girls to be quite quiet compared to the main vocal singer. I will dress these also in black dresses the same as eachother, to show they are not dislike and come as two so that all the actors will link in together.

How does it feel.

The song i am using is called how do you feel. I wanted to use an upbeat pop song which i could use a performance based video. My favourite genre of music is pop because i feel it has an element of fun and happiness. I find many pop videos interesting and the most outgoing. to create my own one i am going to research many pop videos and gain ideas and techniques to create a succesful video.

One video which i would like to relate to my music video is Beyonce - Single Ladies. The song is fun and the video is extremely performance based, in a way i would like my own. The 3 girls in the video, very similar to my own 3 girls, are placed in a plain white room with spotlights on them really expressing their bodys and perfomances, because they are what is being focused on.

I am going to use this idea but placing the girls in a plain black room with spotlights, to emphasise them and make them really stand out expressing a sex appeal to the girls and really inviting the audience in. I think this will look effect because the girls will really shown for what they are, they will be clear in their performance and really glamourised.

storyboards

For my music video I created a series of storyboards of 16 pages and 63 shots. These will be very useful in helping me to film my video, I will have clear knowledge of what to shoot, wat angle, postiton etc, what sound, dialogue etc. I have put the time of each shot at what point it will come on the track and i have clearly drawn out what action will be happening along with an explanation.

Questionnaire

I thought it would be a good idea for me to create a questionnaire to gain an idea of what my audience would like to see in my video for the genre of pop. I wanted to ask questions linking to Goodwins ideas of music videos. The questions i asked linked to the narrative, performance, visuals, lyrics etc. With the outcome of this questionnaire i will be able to make my music video to its best potential by applying my answers into my video.
I used my questionnaire on 20 people of numerous ages as i feel the pop genre can be listened to by all audiences. Here is the questionnaire i used with the answers marked as to how many people answered.

1.   Do you Listen to the pop Genre?

20 - Yes     0 - No

2.   Would you like a performance based video?

20 - Yes     0 - No

3.    Would you like dancing?

18 - Yes     2 - No

4.    Would you like intertextual references?

      15 - Yes     5 - No

5.   Would you like voyeuristic treatment of the female body in a pop video?

            12 - Yes     8 - No

6.   If there were flashbacks linking to the narrative of the song would you be interested?

15 - Yes     5 - No

7.   Would you like a relationship between lyrics and vocals?

18 - Yes     2 - No

8.    Would you like a relationship between music and visuals?

20 - Yes     0 - No

Making this questionnaire has helped me very much so that i can fit my music video to my audiences personal wants and needs in their desired pop genre video. The outcome of my questionnaire was very successful and creating my video will be made much easier with this added info. The results were very similar and there were no dead draws, mos people sided to one answer.

Music Video Brief

I will be a producing my own promotional music video. The song is called how do you feel, produced by Freedom, A girl band consisting of 3 members with one main vocal singer. The video will be a performance concept of the girls dancing symbolising their glamour and voyeuristic treatment of the female body. The group performs in a pop genre with fun happy music. I will use numerous shots of close ups, long shots, over the shoulder etc to make a succesful performance video. Their will also be a element of narrative linking to the lyrcs and vocals.

Goodwins ideas

Goodwin explains that The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close-ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work. Here is an example of the Artist Lilley allen in a close up in the music video. This recurs a few times in the video where she is clearly smiling and laughing to represent her confident and happy self, and also her unique personality giving the audience a clear understanding of the artist.

All music videos represent genre characteristics. This Lilley Allen song is a up beat pop song and it is set around london. The artist is dancing around happily reflecting her confident personality. The bright colours used in her dress and the setting relate to the upbeat music and lyrics representing a happy, free genre. Also the dancing down the street exagerates her feminine side and joyful personality.

In this song the lyrics clearly reflect on the visual in many places. The lyrics to these images are 'When a kid came along to offer a hand, but before she had time to accept it. Hits her over the head doesnt care if shes dead, cause hes got all her jewelery and wallet'. In the video we see a boy walking up to a elderley lady offering a hand and then knocks her down and steals her jewelery and wallet.

This shot is a reference to the notion of looking, using a screen within a screen. Lilleys song is all about what the world should be like but how it is and this shot is clearly demonstarting this with the camera panning across the screen from colour to dullness. There is also the use of voyeuristic treatment to the female body, dressing lilley in a long bright red dress, making her stand out from everything else and making the audience focus on her and her body.

In the video There are numerous intertextual references, where lilley has used characters in stereotype situations which you would see in films and other tv realated programmes. In this shot she stands a young couple at the front door to the girls front house explaining hes walking her home from a date. So stereotypically the man walks her to the front door awaiting a kiss, as seen in many other films and tv programmes.
